What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a natural system of medicine, that originated in India more than 3000 years ago. The Sanskrit term translates to “knowledge of life”. The art and science of Ayurveda work to harmonize our internal and external worlds, based on the idea that disease is due to an imbalance or stress in a person’s consciousness. Ayurveda encourages lifestyle interventions and natural therapies to regain a balance between the body, mind, spirit, and the environment. Goals of treatment aid the person by eliminating impurities, reducing symptoms, increasing resistance to disease, reducing worry, and increasing harmony in life.                                                                       

Herbs and other plants, including oils and common spices, are used extensively in Ayurvedic treatment.

This philosophy of maintaining those 5 vital elements (Air, Space, Fire, Water, and Earth) within and

around us supports the principle of the law of nature:

“Like increases like. Opposite qualities bring back to balance”.
